Elisa Di Francisca Called Benedetta Pilato
An Apology Made
A Clarification of Previous Statements
Elisa Di Francisca, an Italian Olympic gold medalist in fencing, has called Benedetta Pilato, a rising star in the sport, to apologize for comments she made on television.
Di Francisca, who is now retired, had previously criticized Pilato's technique and performance. In the apology call, Di Francisca clarified that her comments were not intended to be personal, but rather were based on her observations of Pilato's technique.
Pilato, who is 16 years old, has emerged as one of the most promising young fencers in Italy. She won the gold medal in the individual foil event at the 2021 European Junior Fencing Championships and has been ranked among the top 10 in the world in the senior rankings.
