President Biden Holds a Press Conference

President Biden held a formal news conference today marking his first year in office and was grilled on his Covid-19 response, the economy, and the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Biden began the press conference by touting his administration's accomplishments over the past year, including the passage of the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court.

However, reporters quickly pressed Biden on the challenges facing his administration, including the rising cost of living, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and the war in Ukraine.

On the economy, Biden acknowledged that inflation is a "real problem" but said that his administration is taking steps to address it, including releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and working with Congress to pass legislation to lower prescription drug costs.

On COVID-19, Biden said that the pandemic is "not over" but that the administration is making progress in fighting it, including by increasing access to vaccines and boosters.

On Ukraine, Biden said that the United States is "united" with its allies in support of Ukraine and that he is "confident" that Ukraine will "prevail" against Russia.

The press conference lasted for about an hour and covered a wide range of topics. Biden was generally well-received by reporters, who praised him for his candor and willingness to answer tough questions.
