Max Verstappen wins the Hungarian Grand Prix
Red Bull driver takes his seventh consecutive victory of the season
Max Verstappen has taken a dominant victory at the Hungaroring, converting his second-place grid slot into his seventh consecutive race victory of the season. The Red Bull driver controlled the race from start to finish, leading every lap and setting the fastest lap of the race to earn an additional point.
Verstappen's victory extends his lead in the drivers' championship to 80 points over Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who finished third in Hungary. Sergio Perez finished second for Red Bull, with Leclerc's Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. rounding out the podium.
The race was relatively uneventful, with few overtakes and no major incidents. The only real drama came on the first lap, when Fernando Alonso's Alpine was hit by Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes, causing Alonso to retire from the race. Hamilton was given a five-second penalty for the incident, but he was able to recover to finish fourth.
Verstappen's victory is a major boost to his championship hopes. The Dutchman has now won seven of the last eight races and is the clear favorite to win the title this season.
