Israel's Netanyahu to Address Congress, Casting Shadow Over Hopes for Gaza Ceasefire
US Officials See Netanyahu's Speech as a Setback in Ceasefire Talks
Netanyahu's Speech, Focus on Iran, Could Undermine Obama's Middle East Diplomacy
WASHINGTON - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will address a joint meeting of Congress on March 3, casting a shadow over cautious optimism for a ceasefire in Gaza, US officials said.
The speech, scheduled for 11 a.m. ET, will come as US Secretary of State John Kerry shuttles between Israeli and Palestinian leaders in an effort to broker a long-term ceasefire.
US officials fear that Netanyahu's speech, which is expected to focus on Iran's nuclear program, could undermine Obama's Middle East diplomacy and make it more difficult to reach a deal with Iran.
